I was born legally blind. At age three, I was fitted with glasses. So those first three years were instrumental to my palpation (touch skills). My hands were my eyes. At the age of 12, I moved from Surrey to Abbotsford to the South Poplar General Store. We catered to the South Asian farm workers with ethnic food and farm clothing. This is where I learned people and business skills.
My mother had severe rheumatoid arthritis and I would soothe her pain with massages. At age nineteen, I left home for a career as a practical nurse. I worked in Vancouver, and later Abbotsford and Mission hospitals, until LPNs were replaced with RNs. In my ten years as a nurse, I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the patients' health care team. With these skills from my past, I decided to pursue a career as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). My training was two years at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. In my first year as an RMT, I worked in Mission at my brother’s chiropractic clinic. After gaining the experience and knowledge of running a clinic, I established my own clinic in Langley at Sundel Square.
I was referred a number of patients by Langley RMTs Kate Neudorf and Leslie Smith. After having a busy, successful clinic in Langley, I opened a second clinic in Abbotsford. Twenty years went by quickly and I moved next door to a work/live condo in The Mews building on Fraser Highway. I now have my practice in Langley full time which reduces my carbon footprint. I am thankful to all of my patients in Abbotsford and Langley, as well as family and friends who have supported me throughout my career.
